Woman At Manners Trial Tells Jury She Smelled Smoke, But Didn’t Know Teen Had Been Shot

The trial of two men accused of first-degree murder in the death of Jordan Manners, 15, continued on Friday.

Three witnesses took the stand and all of them placed one of the accused, J.W., at the scene of the crime.

Manners was shot and left to die in the hallway of his high school, C.W. Jeffreys, on May 23, 2007.

The school secretary held Manners as he was dying. She told the court she could smell smoke, but didn’t know he had been shot.

Eric Colquhoun, a special needs teacher, said Manners was gasping for air but couldn’t get any.

Colquhoun saw J.W. there and thought his behavior was rather funny.

He testified that he heard J.W. say, “oh yo, don’t be doing that” as they lifted Manners’ shirt. He said it as if J.W. was “expressing modesty on behalf of a friend.”

“He was upset,” Colquhoun testified. “He wasn’t sobbing but he looked upset.”
