One of the fashion world’s biggest names and perhaps Britain’s best designer, Alexander McQueen has been found dead in his London home. A spokesperson for McQueen confirmed the news, but didn’t elaborate on circumstances. There are reports his death was a suicide.
Alexander McQueen shot to fame and earned celebrity status when he was appointed the designer of the couture house Givenchy in 1996, where he earned the nickname “l’enfant terrible.” He was awarded the prestigious British Designer of the Year Award four times between 1996 and 2003 and in 2000 left Givenchy to start his own line.
There are reports McQueen’s mother Joyce died last week, and he had posted a series of melancholy posts on his personal Twitter page. He was 40 years old.
