Miller Won’t Ask Giambrone To Step Down

A defiant Mayor David Miller announced Thursday that he will not ask Adam Giambrone to step down from his role as TTC Chair.

Miller almost seemed offended by the suggestion, and vehemently defended Giambrone, who bowed out of the mayor’s race on Wednesday following a highly publicized sex scandal.

“I think what’s happened is extremely sad and Mr. Giambrone has been accountable to everyone,” Miller told reporters.

Miller called the TTC story one of ‘tremendous success’ under Giambrone’s leadership, and deflected blame for numerous problems with the TTC away from the young politician.

“Do I have confidence in him as chair of the Toronto Transit Commission? I have confidence in chair Giambrone because the TTC is going through the most remarkable transformation in the history of this city.

“They’ve got the biggest increase in bus service — ever. They’ve got the highest ridership — ever. We’re replacing the streetcar fleet, we’re building Transit City, we’ve almost completely replaced the bus fleet and we’re replacing the subway car fleet. All of that and much more — customer service initiatives that started a couple of years ago are under chair Giambrone’s leadership.”

“I’m going to stand by him as chair of the TTC because I believe he deserves an opportunity to finish the job.”
