Woman Ejected From Moving Vehicle On 401

A 25-year-old Whitby woman is in hospital with non-life threatening injuries after she was ejected from a moving vehicle on Highway 401.

When emergency crews arrived at the scene east of Brock Street around 3pm, the woman was reportedly conscious and spoke with paramedics. She was taken to an Oshawa hospital and is expected to recover.

The victim and a 29-year-old man, also from Whitby, had been in a burgundy Dodge Durango travelling at the speed of traffic at the time of the incident. After she fell out, he exited at Thickson Road and returned to the scene by way of Victoria Street, which runs parallel to the highway.

Police say the man jumped the fence and came back to help.

They questioned him and were trying to determine whether the woman had been thrown from the vehicle.

“Whatever we find regarding her interview will determine the direction the investigation will take,” said OPP Constable Graham Williamson.

The reconstruction and crime units and the OPP are investigating.

The eastbound lanes of the 401 were closed for about 40 minutes while they were on the scene.

Anyone with information is asked to call the OPP at 905-668-3388 or 1-888-310-1122.
