Body Of Scarborough Hiker Found Near Huntsville

There’s been a sad end to the search for a missing hiker. The OPP found the body of a Scarborough man in the woods north of Huntsville Wednesday.

Richard Code embarked on a solo winter survival hike in the Horn Lake area last Thursday. Police said he died of hypothermia.

The 41-year-old reportedly took few supplies on his trip and didn’t bring a tent or sleeping bag. Reports suggest he was an avid fan of survival television shows, including Survivorman, which stars Les Stroud, who lives in the wilderness without food, shelter or equipment.

The conditions near Horn Lake were rough over the weekend – there were snowstorms and the night time temperature dropped to -12 C.

It isn’t clear if Code had any formal wilderness training. His relatives reportedly claimed most of his knowledge of living in the great outdoors came from television shows.
