Toronto Celebrates Its Birthday By Looking Back

Happy 176th birthday Toronto. You don’t look a day over 175.

To celebrate the city’s birthday, Mayor David Miller helped launch a new interactive website that will let citizens and tourists explore the city’s rich history with the click of a mouse.

The Toronto Museum Project online is a virtual exhibit and interactive website, featuring artifacts interwoven with stories.

“This unique project increases public access to, and discussion about, the more than 150,000 objects that are currently part of the City of Toronto’s Historical Collection, as well as other items of historical interest held by the community,” said Mayor David Miller. “This project is an inventive new way for Torontonians to engage objects, stories and ideas, and to reflect on what they mean for the city’s past, present and future.”

The site was paid for by a $305, 000 federal heritage grant.
