Rural MPP Calls For Province Of Toronto

A rural MPP says the Toronto state-of-mind that prevails at Queen’s Park means politicians ignore concerns in smaller communities and he thinks the nation’s largest city should become its own province.

Bill Murdoch, the Progressive Conservative representative for Bruce-Grey-Owen-Sound, floated his province of Toronto idea at a meeting of the Bruce County Federation of Agriculture.

Politicians’ Toronto-centric decisions ignore rural concerns and result in policies that hurt agriculture and hinder rural food processors, Murdoch claims.

He highlighted the fact that Prince Edward Island’s population of 140,000 is just a fraction of Toronto’s.

Murdoch and another PC MPP, Randy Hillier, were suspended from the Legislature in December after staging a sit-in over the Liberals’ lack of public hearings on the HST.
