A Durham Region police officer has been charged with street racing.
The staff sergeant was allegedly caught speeding in an 80km zone in Ajax on March 9, while he was off-duty. Authorities wouldn’t say exactly how fast he was going, but the officer would’ve had to be allegedly traveling more than 50 km/h over the posted limit to warrant a street racing charge.
Authorities also wouldn’t reveal why it took two weeks for the charge to come to light.
Staff Sgt. John Givelas is due in court in late April.
