Man Pleads Guilty In Fatal Pacific Mall Beating

A man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in a fatal beating at Pacific Mall.

Long “Owen” Sha, 19, was assaulted at MHQ Karaoke Box on May 30, 2007 and died in hospital on June 2.

Salman Qteifan, 21, entered his plea on Thursday and will next appear in court on April 7. He has been in custody since June 4, 2007.

York Regional Police believe that seven people were responsible for the assault.

One man has already pleaded guilty to manslaughter. Rodney O’Brian Forde was sentenced to six years in jail but was given credit for pre-trial custody and was released on January 8.

The trial for the three other accused will begin on Thursday.

Peijian “Steven” Shi, 21, and Zi-Hang “Justin” Ma, 21, of Toronto are charged with first-degree murder.

Andrew Cantelon, 21, also of Toronto, is charged with second-degree murder.  

Investigators are still looking for two men, one of whom was a youth at the time and cannot be identified under Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Peng “Victor” Li, 27, of Markham, is wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for first-degree murder.
