Shooting Prompts High School Lockdown

Police are hunting for a suspect after shots rang out near Eglinton and Dufferin Tuesday afternoon, prompting a local school to go into lockdown.

The gunfire erupted around 1pm at 481 Vaughan Rd., just down the street from Vaughan Road Academy. It’s not known if the shooting is connected to the school.

“I came out and I heard three gunshots. And I heard an officer saying, ‘Get down. Get down.’ Then the swat team came,” described area resident Dwayne Baron.

Police questioned a group of men who were standing beside the school when the shots were fired, but released them when they found shell casings a block away.

“I’m happy all the kids are okay and it’s over now,” said parent Harry Hazanovsky, who met his daughter after she was let out of the school.

Police are searching for the gunman, the weapon and anyone who may have been hit by the gunfire.
