McGuinty Says Catholic, Public Schools Will Have Same Sex Ed Curriculum

MPP Deb Matthews visits an Ontario classroom with Premier Dalton McGuinty.

It doesn’t matter whether your children attend Catholic or public schools: they’ll still study the same sex education curriculum.

Premier Dalton McGuinty made the comments on Wednesday.

He was responding to reports that the Ontario government would allow the Catholic boards to develop their own lesson plan.

Early in 2010, McGuinty announced that changes to sex education were coming. Last week, he reversed course after conservative groups complained about teaching Grade 1 kids to identify genitalia and introducing the concept of same-sex families in Grade 3.

But many experts, including Toronto’s medical officer of health, believe the curriculum was on the right track and would be an important update for the Internet age.

McGuinty said that after a dozen years, it’s for an update.
