Police Offer Rewards In Two West-End Murders

Toronto police believe they have the shooters responsible for two west-end murders and are offering two $50,000 rewards to garner evidence from a community that has been silent to this point.

On Thursday, officers announced the cash for information in the deaths of Tyrell Duffus, 22, and Aeon Grant, 19. Both men were murdered on Falstaff Avenue, near Jane and Highway 401.

Duffus was gunned down in early February and Grant was shot to death two months earlier. Investigators say members of the Falstaff Crips, a gang taken down in citywide raids earlier this week, were responsible for both murders. In Grant’s case, they allegedly killed him because they didn’t want outsiders in their neighbourhood.

Grant’s mother, Pauline Sawyers, was on hand for the announcement and pleaded for witnesses to do their part.

“It’s continuing because we as a community are not coming together and doing what we’re supposed to do. That’s why to this day we’re still having these crimes that are going on,” Sawyers said.

Police hope the arrests of the alleged gang members will make it easier for people to come forward, but admit these types of rewards rarely work.

They are also offering witness protection and relocation to those willing to testify.
