Woman Found Murdered At East-End Plaza

A woman found dead inside her Scarborough dry cleaning business Monday afternoon may have been the victim of a botched robbery.

The 61-year-old victim, identified by plaza occupants as Rose, arrived in the morning at Top A Cleaners, near Finch Ave. E. and Warden. But a few hours after opening, a plaza employee discovered her body in the bathroom.

When police arrived shortly after 12:30pm, they found the victim covered in blood and pronounced her dead at the scene.

“I’m very scared. She’s a very nice lady, very cooperative,” said area resident Nighat Hasan.

Those who knew her say she had been running the business for more than 20 years with her husband, but often worked alone.

Paolo Pison, who owns a laundromat a few doors down, said he relies on a video surveillance system to combat crime.

“[You] have to watch out for crime no matter what part of the city you’re in. I’ve got security cameras here. I have to protect the staff I have,” he said.

Detectives have no suspect description yet, but are canvassing the area for tips.

An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday.
