Suspect Photos Released In Alleged Hospital Room Theft

Police are searching for a man they say stole a laptop from the hospital room of an elderly cancer patient Sunday afternoon.

At about 4:30pm, the man entered the Princess Margaret Hospital Lodge on Jarvis St. and walked from floor to floor.

At one point, he allegedly stole a laptop and black bag belonging to a woman who was in the lobby with her elderly father, who is in Toronto for lung cancer treatment.

The laptop contained photos of the woman’s recently deceased daughter.

“They are the only copies I have of the last three years of my daughter’s life,” said a distraught Teresa Solta.  “She passed away March 23rd, after…a 9 year battle with cancer of her own.  I can’t replace (the photos), it makes me sick just thinking about it.”

“It’s like losing my daughter twice.”

The suspect is described as white, 25 – 30 years old, 5 feet 10 inches tall, with short, dark-brown gelled hair. He was last seen wearing a red and yellow jacket, blue jeans and white running shoes.

“We believe he was going floor to floor looking for things to steal,” said PC Tony Vella.

Solta pleaded with the thief to return the laptop so she can cherish the memories of her deceased daughter, who died at the age of 17.

“If the person that took it is listening, please return it to me, it means more to me than anything in the world.”
