Victim Identified In Murder At Scarborough Plaza

Police have identified a 61-year-old woman who was killed at her dry cleaning business Monday afternoon.

Li-Yuan (Rose) Liu arrived in the morning at Top A Cleaners, near Finch Ave. E. and Warden. But a few hours after opening, a plaza employee discovered her body in the bathroom.

When police arrived shortly after 12:30pm, they found Liu covered in blood and pronounced her dead at the scene.

The results of an autopsy on Tuesday revealed she had been stabbed to death.

At first it appeared Liu could have been killed in a botched robbery, but detectives are moving away from that theory as there was money left behind.

They have released a still from a nearby surveillance camera that shows a “person of interest” caught walking past a laundromat in the plaza around the time Liu was found.

“We want to identify her as fast as we can. At this moment she’s a person of interest. But [with] the video surveillance being watched, that could change momentarily,” Det. Scott Whittemore said Tuesday.

The woman is described as non-white, 25 – 35 years old, with her hair pulled back in a bun or ponytail. She was last seen wearing a long, dark overcoat, dark shoes and carrying a bag.

Anyone with information or who can identify the woman is asked to contact police at 416-808-7400, Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477), online at www.222tips.com, or text TOR and your message to CRIMES (274637).
