Lawyer Found Not Guilty Of Sexually Assaulting Girlfriend’s Roommate

A lawyer accused of trying to grope the roommate of his former girlfriend was acquitted on Thursday.

The day after 48-year-old Calvin Barry’s sexual assault hearing began, Judge Hugh Fraser said although the victim was a credible witness, there was reasonable doubt Barry committed the crime.

Fraser said Barry seemed nervous in court, but it was “understandable since he is taking on a very different role than he is used to.”

Barry, formerly a Crown prosecutor, testified he did not attempt to paw the victim on May 24, 2008, when she was living with his then-girlfriend. He and his former girlfriend claimed he simply caught the victim naked.

The victim, however, said Barry opened the shower door as she was washing her hair and tried to grope her.
