87-Yr.-Old Doctor Accused Of Sexually Assaulting 3 Kids

An 87-year-old doctor who served as the medical officer of health in York Region for nearly three decades is accused of sexually assaulting three children.

The alleged assaults happened between 1962 and 1971, authorities said, and involved children between five and 13-years-old in Mount Albert, north of Toronto.

Authorities said they have reason to believe there may be more victims.

Dr. John Owen Slingerland had practices in Mount Albert and Newmarket and was also a volunteer for Scouts Canada. He was arrested and charged Thursday and was released on bail. He has another court date on June 22nd.

Slingerland also served as the medical officer of health in York Region from 1959 to 1988, when he retired.
