Funeral, Repatriation Ceremony For Two Soldiers Killed In Afghanistan

A Canadian soldier killed in Afghanistan was remembered on Friday as another made his final journey home.

A funeral service was held for Private Kevin McKay, 24, in Barrie. McKay was killed in a roadside bomb blast outside Kandahar City on May 13. He is the 144th soldier to die in Afghanistan.

McKay will be buried at the National Military Cemetery in Ottawa at a later date.

Meanwhile, a repatriation ceremony was held for Colonel Geoff Parker.

Parker, 42, is the highest-ranking official to die in the war zone. He was killed in a suicide bomb attack on Tuesday. A plane carrying his remains arrived at CFB Trenton on Friday.

In a statement released on Thursday, Parker’s widow Mary Jane remembered her husband as her “best friend and a great father…he was a kind, caring, sarcastic and supportive friend.”
