Body Found In L. Ontario May Be Linked To Montreal Crime Family

Homicide detectives have confirmed the identity of a body found encased in concrete in a rusty barrel dumped in Lake Ontario. There’s speculation the victim may be a high-ranking member of a Montreal crime family.

Toronto police have partnered up with investigators from the Montreal force and the OPP after the remains were pulled out of the water near the foot of Jarvis Street on Sunday. A tip reportedly led authorities to that spot.

Police plan to release the name of the victim and provide an update Tuesday afternoon.

A spokesman for the Montreal force said there may be a connection to a kidnapping case in Quebec last week involving a key player in a crime family led by Vito Rizzuto.

Paolo Renda went missing in Montreal and it’s believed he was abducted from his car near his home Thursday.

Toronto Police won’t comment on whose body they believe was placed in the steel drum, but detectives have said they have a good idea who the victim is and where that person was killed.
