Ford slightly ahead of Smitherman in Toronto’s mayoralty race: poll

TORONTO, Ont. – Fresh polling has revealed a tight two-person race for Toronto mayor between Councillor Rob Ford and former Ontario deputy premier George Smitherman.

The larger poll for CTV and the Globe and Mail has Ford ahead by two points — about 18 per cent of the 1,000 people surveyed said they would vote for him if the election was held immediately.

Smitherman got nearly 16 per cent, while Deputy Mayor Joe Pantalone was at 10 per cent and Rocco Rossi at nine per cent.

However, about 40 per cent of voters polled are undecided.

In reaction to the poll, Ford told 680News he is not surprised because people are sick and tired of the way city hall spends their money.

The smaller sample poll for the Toronto Star puts Ford three points behind.
