The Dutch Down The Danes

The Netherlands won its first game of this World Cup Monday with a little help from a Danish player who scored on his own net.

The Dutch squad earned a 2-0 victory over Denmark at Soccer City stadium in Johannesburg, taking the lead in the 46th minute when Dane Simon Poulsen headed the ball, knocking it off the back of his teammate Daniel Agger and into his team’s net.

The second goal came just under 20 minutes later when Dirk Kuyt took full advantage of a rebound.

The Netherlands managed to win despite having their strong offence and free-passing play largely kept at bay by Denmark.
