Sales Surge For $95 Million Lotto Max

People rushed to lotto kiosks on Friday to snap up a ticket for a chance to win a portion of the largest jackpot in Canadian history.

The Lotto Max pot swelled to $95 million this week with $50 million up for grabs in the main jackpot. Another $45 million will be given away in Maxmillion draws, each worth $1 million.

Not surprisingly, ticket sales for the draws are up 38 per cent over last week.

While the numbers listed above may already have you imagining how you’d spend your winnings, the following statistics may put a damper on your daydreaming: the odds of winning the $50 million are estimated at one in 28 million and the odds of winning one of the $1 million draws are estimated at one in 623,000.

In February a winner in Quebec and another in B.C. split a $50 million Lotto Max jackpot. Marie Fontaine of Pine Falls, Manitoba won an entire $50 million jackpot last November.

You may have to wait until 5am Saturday to find out if you’re a winner. Officials say the high number of draws means the winning numbers will be available a little later than usual.

Sales for the upcoming draws end at 9pm Friday.
