First Day Of Summer Dawns Warm And Humid

When the sun came up at 5:36am on Monday, the first day of summer began.

Well, not officially – the most popular season didn’t begin until 7:28am.

But you’ll forgive us for wanting a few extra hours of balmy weather and daydreaming about pools.

The June solstice is a warm and humid one, with a high of 28C in the downtown core and few clouds.

There will be more daylight on Monday than any other day during the year – 15 hours and 27 minutes of it, to be precise.

“If you work outdoors, you’re going to need to stay hydrated,” cautioned Breakfast Television’s Frank Ferragine.

The UV index is at nine, which means you’ll also need sunscreen if you plan to be outside for any length of time.

Monday also marked  National Aboriginal Day. There was a sunrise ceremony at City Hall, including a flag raising in the new garden on the podium roof.
