Multi-Vehicle Crash In Hamilton Claims 4-Yr.-Old Boy’s Life

A four-year-old boy was killed in a multi-vehicle crash in Hamilton, police confirmed Tuesday.

The accident happened at 3:15pm Monday on Upper James Street, south of Twenty Road. A Saturn car carrying the boy, his mother and infant sibling was rear-ended by an empty school bus. The impact caused a chain-reaction crash involving a Toyota and a delivery van, which was stopped on the street to make a left turn into a driveway, police said.

The 32-year-old mother and two kids were rushed to hospital and the four-year-old boy was pronounced dead about an hour after the accident. The youngster’s name hasn’t been released.

The woman and infant are still in hospital with serious, but non life-threatening injuries. The family is from Hamilton.

The driver and passenger in the Toyota and the driver of the delivery truck were also taken to hospital and are expected to be released Tuesday. The driver of the school bus wasn’t hurt in the crash.

Everyone involved was wearing a seat belt and both children were properly belted into their child seats.

Authorities are now looking over the bus to figure out if a mechanical defect is to blame for the crash. Alcohol and speed have been ruled out, police said.

Investigators are appealing for witnesses to come forward. If you saw what happened call the Collision Reconstruction Unit at (905) 546-4755.
