Omar Khadr Jury To Comprise Seven Officers; Stage Set For Opening Statements

Seven U.S. military officers will decide Omar Khadr’s war-crimes case in Guantanamo Bay.

The seven were seated after eight other potential jurors were excused in light of prosecution and defence challenges.

Among those who will judge Khadr and decide on a sentence if he is convicted is a captain who says Guantanamo Bay should be closed.

Most of those rejected were dismissed after defence challenges on the basis they could not be impartial.

The seating of the four men and three women sets the stage for opening arguments.

At least five of the jurors will have to agree Khadr is guilty to secure a conviction.
