Sole Survivor Of Scaffolding Accident Launches Multi-Million Dollar Suit

Dilshod Marupov, a migrant worker whose spine was broken and legs crushed in a scaffolding accident on Christmas Eve, has launched a $16 million lawsuit.

The 22-year-old man is the sole survivor of the accident. The scaffolding Marupov and four other men were standing on snapped in half as they were repairing balconies at an apartment building on Kipling Avenue near Finch.

The men fell 13 storeys.

Marupov, who moved to Canada from Uzbekistan just a few months before the accident, spent months in hospital and said he still suffers from chronic pain.

He filed a suit which names the companies involved – Metron Construction of Toronto and Swing N Scaff of Ottawa – and the Ministry of Labour. He’s seeking $16.3 million in damages, according to a report in the Globe and Mail.

Charges were laid against Metron Construction and Swing N Scaff under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
