Health officials are warning people who ate at a Scarborough Wendy’s in late July and early August to watch for signs of Hepatitis A.
An employee at the restaurant – at 428 Nugget Avenue, west of Markham Road – has the disease and anyone who ate there between July 26 and August 6 may have been exposed to the virus.
The risk of infection is low, but if customers notice symptoms of Hepatitis A within 50 days of their visit, they should contact their doctor. The signs are fever, loss of appetite, tiredness, nausea or vomiting, dark urine and jaundice.
Hepatitis A is a liver disease which shows up in the stool and can spread through contaminated food if the infected person does not wash his hands. It is not spread by coughing or sneezing.
Most people with Hepatitis A recover with no permanent liver damage.
