Foul Play A Factor In Case Of Missing Woman: Police

Police now believe foul play is a factor in the case of a missing Orangeville woman.  The grim update was revealed in a Wednesday after extensive forensic examinations of both her residence and the area where her car was located.

In the meantime the search continues for Sonia Varaschin after police discovered blood in her Orangeville home and smeared on her abandoned car this week.

Varaschin, who works as a nurse, was last seen Sunday night and failed to show up for her shift in Newmarket on Monday. Police say the 42-year-old’s white Toyota Corolla was parked in an alley near Orangeville’s main square, near Broadway Street, around 10am the same day.  It was found with the doors and trunk open.

Authorities cordoned off the area for most of the day Monday and a helicopter was also used to search the scene.

Blood was found on the car and in her home on Spring Street a short distance away.

Both Orangeville Police and the OPP are on the case.

Varaschin is described as:

  • 5’1”
  • 125lbs.
  • Brown hair with lighter coloured streaks

Police addressed the media Wednesday, saying their are no current suspects.

They were searching for the driver of a vehicle that may have seen the missing woman shortly before she vanished.

This person contacted police, but didn’t see anything that could have helped the investigation.
