City’s Latest Murder Victim Identified

Toronto police have identified the city’s latest murder victim, but are releasing few other details surrounding the case.

Jerome Lee Ellington, 25, of Toronto was gunned down on Jane Street near York Gate Boulevard around 10pm Sunday night.  He was reportedly in the area visiting the grandmother of his young son.

Two people were taken into custody after the shooting, but were released shortly after without being charged.

The killing has shattered the victim’s father.

“He was well loved by everyone around in this community, he was just an inspiration,” said Byron Ellington.  “He does volunteering sometimes at a centre for kids, teaching them music, etc.”

“We need to say stop, once and for all across the city, all the killings…I mean it’s black on black crime, it’s not doing any good for our people.”

This was the third fatal shooting in as many days. On Friday, 27-year-old Jahmeel Spence was murdered in the Bellamy and Lawrence area. And on Sunday afternoon a man was gunned down on the basketball court at Parkdale Collegiate.
