Fallen Police Officers Remembered At Cross-Province Run

Hundreds of people took to the streets on Thursday to remember fallen police officers.

The sixth annual National Peace Officers Memorial Run began at Queen’s Park and will end up at Parliament Hill. That’s a 460 kilometre cross-province memorial journey – and participants hope to complete it in three days.

Erin Ochakovsky is running in honour of her husband Artem “James” Ochakovksy. He was killed in a car crash while on duty.

“It just shows that we’re not going to forget them,” Ochakovsky told CityNews.

“They gave the ultimate sacrifice, to do their job and to protect citizens,” she added.

The officers participating in the run will attend the Canadian Police and Peace Officers’Memorial in Ottawa on Sunday.
