A man who allegedly assaulted an infant, leaving the child fighting for his life in hospital, may be headed out of Ontario, police said. A Canada-wide arrest warrant has been issued for his arrest.
Last week Toronto Police released the name and photograph of 21-year-old suspect Ronnie Munoz-Hernandez after a five-month-old boy was brought to the Hospital for Sick Children on Sept. 12 with life-threatening injuries. The person who brought the child in said there had been an accident, but doctors concluded the baby had been deliberately hurt.
On Friday, authorities issued a nation-wide arrest warrant for Munoz-Hernandez and said they believe he may be trying to make his way to the Quebec-U.S. border.
A 31-year-old man was reportedly arrested on Wednesday for allegedly helping the suspect escape police.
The infant was hurt at a highrise apartment near Black Creek and Trethewey Drives. Investigators believe the suspect was the only one watching the child at the time. The boy’s mother isn’t a suspect.
Det. Sgt. Colin Greenway urged Munoz-Hernandez to turn himself in last week.
Munoz-Hernandez is described as:
-White,
-5’11”, 140 lbs.,
-Black hair and brown eyes.
Police said he may be using his 26-year-old brother, David’s identification.
