Julian Fantino To Take A Shot At Federal Politics

Julian Fantino doesn’t appear to be ready for retirement.

The former OPP commissioner is scheduled to make an announcement in Woodbridge Tuesday morning. It’s expected Toronto’s former top cop will announce he intends to run in the upcoming federal by-election in Vaughan under the Conservative banner.

Following the announcement, Fantino has reportedly planned a kickoff reception for Friday night at a Vaughan banquet hall and Prime Minister Stephen Harper is expected to attend.

Fantino’s term as OPP commissioner ended in August.

Harper hasn’t yet set a date for the Vaughan by-election. The vote will likely happen in November.

Fantino was formerly the chief of the York Region, Toronto and Ontario provincial police forces.
