Street Beat – October 14 – Crews Battle Fire At Abandoned Brampton Home

A busy route has reopened following an early-morning fire in Brampton.

Emergency crews were called to a house on Mayfield Road near Bramalea Road around 3:30am. An abandoned home was fully engulfed in flames. Brampton Fire worked quickly to put out the blaze.

No one was injured.

Peel Police said there was nothing suspicious about the fire. 


Gas Leak In Mississauga

A gas leak in Mississauga has been capped.

A broken line on Glenn Hawthorne Boulevard, near Hurontario and Eglinton, forced dozens of people from their homes around 3:30am on Thursday. Emergency crews arrived and found that a nearby construction project may have caused the leak. A trench collapsed and caused the breakage.

Transit buses were brought in to shelter the evacuees as Mississauga Fire, Peel Police and Mississauga Ambulance assessed the damage.

No one was injured and residents in the neighbourhood will allowed to return home shortly before 5am.


Brief Power Outage Downtown

A power outage hit a large swath of the downtown core during the morning rush hour Thursday.

The lights went out around 7:30am, including traffic lights at major intersections.

The source of the problem was apparently at a hydro station near Queens Quay.

Power was restored around 8am.
