New Faces At City Hall

There will plenty of new faces at City Hall when elected officials are sworn in on December 1.

Of the 44 council positions, 15 of them will be occupied by newcomers.

Toronto residents handed Rob Ford the city’s top job, with the 10-year councillor giving up his Ward 2 seat to run for office. Replacing him in Etobicoke North is his very own brother, Doug Ford.

Ford has announced he plans to donate his salary over the next four years to community groups in need. City councillors make a base salary of around $99,000 per year. During his time as councilor, Ford will continue to serve as president of his family’s multi-million dollar business, Deco Labels and Tags.

While Rob Ford left his seat voluntarily, many high-profile councillors were turfed by voters, and many more chose not to compete.

TTC mainstays Adam Giambrone and Howard Moscoe didn’t run, leaving their races wide open. The same can be said for Joe Pantalone, who chose to run for mayor.

But many other councillors were ousted by residents fed up with their performance. Sandra Bussin, who served four terms, Peter Milcyzn, and Bill Saundercook are among those trounced by newcomers.

Ward 1 Etobicoke North: Incumbent Suzan Hall was ousted by Vincent Crisanti.

Ward 2 Etobicoke North: Doug Ford took the seat vacated by his brother Rob Ford.

Ward 5 Etobicoke-Lakeshore: Peter Milczyn was bested by Justin Di Ciano by a slim margin of just 66 votes.

Ward 10 York Centre : Mike Feldman didn’t run for re-election, leaving the field wide open. James Pasternak swooped to victory with 19.2 per cent of the vote.

Ward 13 Parkdale-High Park: Incumbent Bill Saundercook lost to Sarah Doucette.

Ward 15 Eglinton Lawrence: Howard Moscoe didn’t run and Josh Colle took his spot.

Ward 18 Davenport: Ana Bailao won in a field of newcomers after Adam Giambrone decided not to run.

Ward 19 Trinity Spadina: Mike Layton (yes, the son of Jack) won after Joe Pantalone decided to run for mayor instead of his current seat.

Ward 22 St. Paul’s: Incumbent Michael Walker didn’t run and Josh Matlow won.

Ward 25 Don Valley West: Incumbent Cliff Jenkins was turfed by Jaye Robinson.
