UMOVE Rallies For Victims Of Violence

Yonge Dundas Square was filled with drumming Sunday, as part of a UMOVE (United Mothers Opposed to Violence Everywhere) rally.

The noise is designed to break the silence surrounding the victims of gun violence and those who have been left behind.

The walk was called “Who Will Walk In These Shoes?” Participants carried with them running shoes to symbolize those lost to gun violence.

Although gun violence may be down overall in Toronto, UMOVE maintains even one person killed is too many.

UMOVE was founded by Audette Shephard after the murder of her only son, 19-year-old Justin in 2001.

In 2004, the city of Toronto proclaimed Oct. 21 as the UMOVE Day of Non-Violence.
