Trains Up And Running After Flooding At Greenwood Station

A flood at Greenwood subway station caused delays on the entire Bloor-Danforth line on Wednesday, and shut down train traffic along one stretch of the track.

By 8:30am, trains were back up and running on the line – but commuters were contending with a long wait.

“Worst I’ve ever had,” rider Caitlin Stewart said.

“It got to the point where the escalator was moving and people couldn’t move forward and I nearly got trampled,” she added.

A broken watermain outside the station is responsible for the damage. Shuttle buses – 26 of them  – were running between Woodbine and Broadview stations as TTC officials worked to get service back online.

“The problem originated on a city street,” spokesman Brad Ross said.

“The water rushed into the station, down onto the tracks, and into our yard, which is where most of our trains are stored at night. The water was very high. It was touching our third rail so we had to cut power,” Ross explained.

Riders are advised to give themselves extra time, or chose an alternate route.

“If you know anyone heading out to work, tell them ‘up and at’em, get moving.’ It’s definitely going to be very busy this morning,” Kevin Carrington, TTC Transit Control, told Breakfast Television.

“I’m not going to try to sugarcoat it,” he added.

“You’re looking at a stretch of seven stations in the affected area.”
