Canada Barely Mentioned In George W. Bush’s Memoir Decision Points

Canucks hoping to find some significant Can-Con in George W. Bush’s recently-released memoir Decision Points will be sorely disappointed.

Canada receives only a few, very brief mentions in the former American president’s 512-page account of his two terms in office.

Jean Chretien made the cut a few times. Bush mentions a phone call from the former prime minister in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks offering support. Bush also noted the hospitality stranded Americans received in Canada when flights were grounded.

Bush also wrote about an exchange with Chretien at a G8 summit in Kananaskis, Alta. in 2002. The former PM’s decision to keep Canada out of the Iraq war wasn’t mentioned.

Paul Martin isn’t in the book. Prime Minister Stephen Harper is included, offering a joke about former Russian president Vladimir Putin.

Canada’s role in Afghanistan is mentioned briefly, but relations and issues that affect the two trading partners and allies receive little attention.
