Gas Leak Prompts Evacuation On York U Campus

York University evacuated a number of buildings on its west-end campus after workers severed a pipe on Tuesday afternoon.

It happened around 2:30pm as a construction crew was working on the north end of the Keele campus. Enbridge crews were able to cap the line a couple of hours later and begin air quality checks.

There will likely be no changes to the evening schedule except for classes in the Chemistry Building.

Officials said the leak also affected the Petrie Science and Engineering Building, Tait Mackenzie Centre, William Small Centre, Stong College and Residence, and Norman Bethune College and Residence.

No one was injured in the incident.
