Vet Loses Medal From Dutch Community After Remembrance Day Ceremony

A Second World War veteran is hoping someone has found a special Dutch medal he lost in Peterborough, Ont., on Remembrance Day.

Neil James says his 88-year-old father Ward is missing a medal given to him by the community in Holland for his part in the liberation of that country.

“The medal was separate and it came off his jacket,” James said.

“It had a greenish brown ribbon on it. He was in Holland, got one from the Dutch community, three, four, five years ago.”

James says his father visited the local cenotaph Thursday morning and headed downtown in the afternoon, and suspects the medal went missing at or near a Sear’s store.

The Dutch medal was separate from others Ward James was wearing and he noticed it missing when he returned home in the afternoon.

“My sister took him down to Sears and they can’t find it,” Neil James said. (CKRU)
