OPP Officer Knocked On Lloyd’s Door While Williams Outside: Report

An OPP officer reportedly knocked on the door of Jessica Lloyd’s house on the evening of Jan. 28 after noticing a suspicious SUV parked in a nearby field.

Lloyd didn’t answer the door and the officer left, according to a report in the Toronto Star. It’s not known if the officer took down the licence plate of the Nissan Pathfinder that belonged to Russell Williams.

Williams was hiding in Lloyd’s back yard and watched the officer leave. He then broke into the house and raped her repeatedly.

Williams murdered Lloyd the following day at his cottage in Tweed, Ont.

The Star’s report claims the officer who visited Lloyd’s home that night is having a hard time dealing with the murder, believing she could’ve done more to prevent it. The officer reportedly took stress leave, although that hasn’t been confirmed.

The fact that the officer stopped at Lloyd’s house and knocked on the door helped investigators collect tire treads that would later help solve the case. She also provided a general description of the suspect vehicle.

Williams, the former commander at CFB Trenton, pleaded guilty to the murders of Lloyd and Marie-France Comeau. He also admitted to 82 break-and-enters and two sexual assaults. He was handed two concurrent life sentences for the murders, 10-years each for the sex assaults and a one-year sentence for each of the break-ins.

On Wednesday, the OPP, Belleville and Ottawa Police forces and the Canadian Forces National Investigation Service announced they would no longer be speaking to the media about the Williams’ case “out of respect for the victims, their families, friends and the communities.”
