Shuffling Off To Buffalo? Take Your Snowshoes

A massive snowstorm walloped Buffalo late on Wednesday and officials are still dealing with the fallout.

Drivers travelling along Interstate 90 were stranded on the highway for more than 20 hours. A crash was made worse by the snowfall and left motorists fuming.

“From the official freeway radio, it was saying ‘oh, traffic is heavy, it’s stop and go.’ We’d been stopped dead for six hours,” one man described.

Authorities now plan to review their emergency procedures. The executive director of the New York State Thruway Authority told Buffalo News people who could have been and wanted to be evacuated should have been.

The storm began Wednesday and buried parts of Buffalo and some suburbs under more than two feet of snow.

The snowfall should taper off by Friday morning, but more of the white stuff is expected throughout the weekend.

Meanwhile, there’s a 30 per cent chance of flurries in the forecast for Toronto, and a high of 3C. The clouds will clear up on Friday evening and the temperature will drop to -7C.

As for the weekend, Saturday will bring sun with cloudy periods and a high of 0C, while we could see some snow on Sunday. There’s a 60 per cent chance of flurries, a low of -6C and a high of -1C in the forecast.
