Families Of Soldiers Deployed Overseas Get Early Gift: Christmas Trees

More than 1,000 real Christmas trees are being distributed across the country to families of Canadian soldiers deployed overseas during the holiday season.

At CFB Trenton, Ont., Eve Lawrence says she has a list of military members who are away, and is contacting their families.

She says an invitation was sent out to them to come pick up a tree.

Lawrence notes it’s difficult for them when their spouse is away for the holidays and this is a way for the community to show appreciation for the soldiers’ extra dedication.

Ten Ontario Christmas tree farmers are participating in the program.

The Trees for Canadian Troop Families Program was established four years ago by the Canadian Christmas Tree Growers Association. (CKRU)
