Founder Of WikiLeaks Denied Bail On Sex Assault Charges

A British judge has formally denied bail for Julian Assange, 39, the founder of WikiLeaks who is wanted on charges of rape, molestation and unlawful coercion.

Judge Howard Riddle told Assange he has substantial grounds to believe he wouldn’t show up to following court dates and put him in police custody ahead of an extradition hearing.

Assange told the London court Tuesday morning he intended to fight his extradition to Sweden

The WikiLeaks founder turned himself into Scotland Yard on Tuesday morning. The charges he is facing stem from a visit to Sweden in August, but he says the charges are trumped up and a response to the documents revealed by WikiLeaks.

The company has published thousands of leaked documents concerning U.S. military activity in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as details on how exactly U.S leaders and diplomats view some of their counterparts from across the globe. The documents were released online.
