Man Charged In Crossbow Killing Appears In Court

A man charged with first-degree murder in his father’s bizarre death appeared in court Wednesday.

Zhou “Peter” Fang, 24, was remanded into custody until his next appearance on Dec. 22.

Fang is accused of murdering his father with a crossbow inside Main Street Library. Si “William” Cheng, 52, was pronounced dead at the scene around 4:20pm on December 2.

Cheng was reportedly found with the arrow still in his back.

Fang’s lawyer has said Fang lived in fear of his father.

Former neighbours of the family say they had a history of violence. Police have confirmed with CityNews that Si Cheng was twice previously convicted of assaulting his wife in early 2000, serving time in jail for his crimes.  After his wife left him he lived as a recluse in the family home near Steeles and Bayview.  Six weeks ago he was evicted and moved into the Dixon Hall hostel on the Danforth.

The library was closed for the investigation but reopened on December 7.
