ETOBICOKE, Ont. – Residents in south Etobicoke are expressing concern about the opening on a new superjail that is going to house over 1,600 inmates.
The 6,700 square metre is set to open in September 2012. It will hold inmates from the Mimico Correctional Centre and the Don Jail, which are both slated to close.
According to the Toronto Sun, one person from the local business improvement area said he does not want the area to be known as just the home of a superjail.
Other residents said it is a little too close for comfort.
The site was chosen due to its access to highways and public transit.
