Hollywood Unveils Oscar Nominations

Get your scorecards ready: The Oscar nominees were announced on Tuesday.

The 10 nominees for Best Picture are Black Swan, The Fighter, Inception, The Kids Are All Right, The King’s Speech, 127 Hours, The Social Network, Toy Story 3, True Grit and Winter’s Bone.

The five nominees for Directing are Black Swan, Darren Aronofsky; The Fighter, David O. Russell; The King’s Speech, Tom Hooper; The Social Network, David Fincher; and True Grit, Joel Coen and Ethan Coen.

The five nominees for Actor in a Leading Role are Javier Bardem, Biutiful; Jeff Bridges, True Grit; Jesse Eisenberg, The Social Network; Colin Firth, The King’s Speech; and James Franco, 127 Hours.

The five nominees for Actress in a Leading Role are Annette Bening, The Kids Are All Right; Nicole Kidman, Rabbit Hole; Jennifer Lawrence, Winter’s Bone; Natalie Portman, Black Swan; and Michelle Williams, Blue Valentine.

The five nominees for Writing (Adapted Screenplay) are 127 Hours, screenplay by Danny Boyle & Simon Beaufoy; The Social Network, screenplay by Aaron Sorkin; Toy Story 3, screenplay by Michael Arndt; story by John Lasseter, Andrew Stanton and Lee Unkrich; True Grit, written for the screen by Joel Coen & Ethan Coen; and Winter’s Bone, adapted for the screen by Debra Granik & Anne Rosellini.

The five nominees for Writing (Original Screenplay) are Another Year, written by Mike Leigh; The Fighter, screenplay by Scott Silver and Paul Tamasy & Eric Johnson; story by Keith Dorrington & Paul Tamasy & Eric Johnson; Inception, written by Christopher Nolan; The Kids Are All Right, written by Lisa Cholodenko & Stuart Blumberg; and The King’s Speech, screenplay by David Seidler.

Meanwhile, Denis Villeneuve’s Incendies is nominated for best foreign language film.

Many of the favourites have already started racking up the hardware, with The Social Network, The Kids Are All Right, and Toy Story 3 all winning Best Picture at the Golden Globes.

Yes, you read that right – although the award isn’t exactly the same. The Social Network (also known as ‘that Facebook movie’) won for best motion picture – drama; The Kids Are All Right won for best motion picture – comedy or musical; and Toy Store 3 won best animated feature film.
