Canadians Set To Rally In Support Of Egyptian Uprising

Supporters of the anti-government uprising in Egypt are planning to rally in at least three Canadian cities today and Saturday.

Hundreds are expected to demonstrate outside the Egyptian consulate in Montreal and the Egyptian embassy in Ottawa on Friday afternoon.

A family-friendly rally will be held in Toronto’s Dundas Square on Saturday afternoon.

Ahmed Khalifa, an organizer for the Toronto event, says he’s amazed that so many people are coming together in support of the protests sweeping the Middle East.

Activists in Egypt have taken to the streets in the country’s largest anti-government demonstrations in years and calling for mass protests in Cairo on Friday.

The popular revolt that began in Tunisia has also spread to Yemen, where tens of thousands are rallying against President Abdullah Saleh.
