Hundreds Attend Vigil For Slain Mississauga Teen

The friends and family of slain teen Shadi Taleb gathered outside a Mississauga movie theatre Friday night for a vigil in his honour.

The 17-year-old died in hospital after he was found without vital signs outside his home near Highway 403 and Eglinton Avenue on Monday night. He was laid to rest at a Mississauga mosque hours before the memorial.

“His mother took it hard,” said friend Tania Assi. “She was lying overtop of the coffin and she was crying. She couldn’t take it. It’s not easy. It’s not easy.”

“He was the light in the dark,” said another friend, Heather Duncan-Clarke. “He was the sun. He was a smile. He was the light in everyone’s life.”

Taleb was just a semester away from graduating from high school, with plans to sign up for a college business program.

Peel police are investigating and say they may be looking for as many as six suspects.

A 45-year-old woman was also in the home at the time of the incident and was treated in hospital for minor injuries.
