Justin Bieber Charms Toronto Fans While Promoting His Movie ‘Never Say Never’

Until today, I did not understand the allure of pop star Justin Bieber, and I cringed whenever I heard his name. It’s not even that his music and hair are bad, or that he’s worth millions of dollars and I’m jealous of him. No, it’s that whenever I saw him on TV he came across as a smug, spoiled kid. Well, as we all know, TV can be deceiving, and my opinion of him was changed this afternoon when I sat through a press conference for his movie Never Say Never.

Forget the fact he made us press folk wait over an hour for him, or that he didn’t know who Canadian icon Gordon Pinsent was (if you’ve never seen the YouTube video of Pinsent reading from Bieber’s memoirs, it’s a must-see). What made the light bulb go off as to why he is where he is was how he treated his fans. A bunch of them were circling the Royal York Hotel like sharks and he invited them all into the press conference. Then he had the nerve to let them ask questions! And his answers to questions were all about the fans, fans, fans.

Bieber knows exactly why he is filthy rich and famous, and is sincere with his love for the people who got him there. I have a newfound respect for him now, and I get it, I really get it.

Justin Bieber: Never Say Never is in theatres February 11.
