Rocco Rossi To Run For Tories In Provincial Election

After failing to win the mayor’s seat in Toronto Rocco Rossi’s taking a shot at a provincial politics and will run under the Progressive Conservative banner.

Rossi, the former national director of the Liberal Party, will seek the PC nomination in the Eglinton-Lawrence riding. The provincial election happens Oct. 6.

PC Leader Tim Hudak is hoping Rossi will give his party a strong shot at winning a seat in Toronto.

“With the amount of work that needs to be done to turn this province around, we need Toronto to stand tall. Rocco has a rich and deep knowledge of the city, its challenges and ideas on how to solve them,” Hudak said in a statement Tuesday.

Rossi bowed out of the mayoral race just over two weeks before the vote. He only managed to earn single-digit numbers in public opinion polls. He also lost several key staff members to George Smitherman’s campaign.
